Port management hailed for using modern handling facilities

HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy has directed Gangavaram Port authorities to take immediate steps to issue appointment orders to 300 displaced persons of Dibbapalem village by July 1.

Dr. Reddy, who reviewed the relief and rehabilitation package for Gangavaram Port displaced persons on Tuesday, specifically told Port Chairman D.V.S. Raju to fulfil the promise made to these people about employment.

“The State government has done everything as per the agreement providing all the necessary infrastructure facilities for the Port.

A police station was set up while the government released Rs. 61.67 crore to the Visakhapatnam Collector for relief and rehabilitation (R&R),” Dr. Reddy pointed out.

The Chief Minister was annoyed with the Port authorities for not issuing appointment orders to the 300 displaced persons.

He also asked Collector K. Shyamal Rao to submit a report on orders being issued by July 1.

He directed the Port authorities to give appointment letters to displaced people of Gangavaram village also by August 1 after Lok Ayukta disposes of the case. He asked the Collector to implead himself in the case and see that it was settled at the earliest.

Dr. Reddy said that providing jobs to the people affected by the project was part of the commitment given to the people by his government. However, he complimented the Port management for the modern and sophisticated handling facilities.

The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary P.Ramakanth Reddy, Secretary, Port, Investments and Infrastructure Manmohan Singh, Special Secretary Investments and Infrastructure K. V. Brahmananda Reddy among others.
