90 per cent of works under way, says Minister

WARANGAL: Major Irrigation Minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah accused the Opposition parties of misleading people on developmental works undertaken in the district, particularly in view of the Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy’s visit.

Mr. Lakshmaiah addressing a press conference here on Saturday said about 90 per cent of works were underway while only 10 per cent yet to be started pending for technical clearances.

Of the 23 works for which the Chief Minister laid foundation during his earlier visits, five were completed and 19 were at various stages of completion.

Work proposed

Of the 56 works proposed during the past three years, 29 works were already completed while the massive project of drinking water supply with Rs. 300 crore is pending for clearance.

“The figures speak the truth. There is no substance in the allegations being made by Opposition leaders,” he said.

The Minister pointed out the State Government had allocated more than Rs. 5,000 crore budget for the housing scheme which was much higher than the general budget of many States in the country.

The Government had given house sites to a total of 4,690 families and 3,000 poor families would get the house site pattas from the Chief Minister on Sunday.
