GUNTUR: One person was killed and two others were grievously injured in a hit-and-run road accident that took place on the Autonagar-Kancharlapalem main road, 5 k.m away from Tenali, on Sunday afternoon.

The three youths were riding a motorcycle towards Tenali when the accident took place. Eye witnesses found a front bumper plate of an Mahindra Auto on the right side of the road. Tenali rural police are investigating the case.

The deceased was identified as Zakir, a marble worker, and the injured were his friends, Srinu and Anil. The three were believed to be in a drunken condition while driving the motorcycle (AP 16 AA 2786) and crashed into the autorickshaw while overtaking another vehicle.

The two injured persons were saved due to timely medical attention given by an American doctor Steve and his Indian counterpart Madhavi Latha, who were on their way to Tenali from Rajahmundry to conduct a medical camp. Immediately after seeing the dastardly road accident, they rushed to the accident spot and administered first aid. Dr. Steve risked and waded into a nearby canal and got a cloth with which he cleaned the wounds.

The injured persons were later shifted to a private hospital in the 108 ambulance. The police arrived later.
