Karimnagar cricket body launches KPL

KARIMNAGAR: Inspired by BCCI Indian Premier League (IPL), Karimnagar Cricket Association has launched the Karimnagar Premier League (KPL) from Wednesday to encourage young cricketers and Twenty20 cricket competitions in the district.

A total of ten teams from the district would be participating in the competitions, which would be held from Wednesday to February 2 at the Circus grounds, Arts College grounds and SRR College grounds simultaneously in Karimnagar town.


The organisers have divided the ten teams into two groups and will conduct matches in league-cum-knock-out system.

There are announced huge cash prizes for all the participants. The winners of the tournament would secure a cash prize of Rs. 50,000, the runners-up Rs. 30,000, semi-final teams Rs. 10,000 and each participating team Rs. 7,500.

Besides, there would be prizes for participants in each match with man of the match, best batsman, best bowler, best all –rounder, etc.

Minister for Endowments J. Ratnakara Rao had formally inaugurated the tournaments by hitting a ball at Circus grounds. KDCCB chairman K. Ravinder Rao, Karimnagar market committee chairman Y. Sunil Rao, Mayor D. Shankar, deputy Mayor Mohd. Abbas Sami, district Cricket Association president J. Jaganmohan Rao, members Y. Sukumar Rao, Mahender, Muralidhar and others were also present.
