VIJAYAWADA: Sleuths of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Saturday handed over to the ACB Special Court here the Executive Engineer of the Fisheries Department, V. Suryanarayana, who is in the eye of a storm over allegations of kickbacks paid to political leaders.

Suryanarayana was taken into custody by the ACB on December 12 on the charge of possessing assets disproportionate to known sources of income and produced in the ACB Special Court in the city on the same day and Judge V. Chandrasekharan remanded him for 14 days. As the ACB filed a petition in the court seeking special permission to question him for two days, the court granted permission on December 17. The ACB officials produced him in the court on Saturday when he was sent to the district prison. His bail petition is likely to come up for hearing on Monday.

Speaking to the reporters outside the court, Suryanarayana asserted that he had taken nothing but his monthly salary, and all the assets unearthed by the sleuths of the ACB belonged to his wife. “How can the ACB make me responsible for the properties owned by my wife?” he asked.
