TRAI conducting open house across country to submit views on cable TV tariff to the I&B Ministry

HYDERABAD: Cable Operators and Master Signalling Operators (MSO) in the city and from districts on Saturday reiterated their demand of dispensing with the bouquet system. At a packed ‘open house’ organised by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), they said it was becoming unproductive, loss-making and burdensome system for them to pay up even for those channels in the bouquet that they did not want. Among those who wanted the system to go included SitiCable, C TV and C Channel, all MSOs.

On their part, the broadcasters, who were represented among others by those from Zee TV and CSBN, pointed out that they were offering discounts for giving ‘bouquets of channels’.

It was not as if they were independently charging the same or premium rate for each of their channels.

TRAI members A.K. Sawhney and R.N. Prabhakar, Principal Adviser (Broadcasting and Cable Service), R.N. Choubey and Secretary, R.K. Arnold were present.

Similar exercise

Later, Mr. Sawhney told the gathering that TRAI had conducted a similar open house in Jaipur before coming here.

Once their tours were over, they would compile the reactions received across the country and submit their recommendations on tariff for cable TV operators to the Information and Broadcasting Ministry.
