Nannapaneni seeks explanation from Minister on oil in temples

Staff Reporter

GUNTUR: Terming the reports submitted by local revenue officers over the suspicious modes of preparation of oil used in temple rituals or preparation of prasadam as ‘deeply disturbing’, Telugu Desam official spokesperson and MLC Nannapaneni Rajakumari alleged on Tuesday that animal carcass fats were being used.

This, she said, would have lead to incurring the wrath of Gods. Speaking to mediapersons here on Tuesday, she said that if the reports submitted by local officers, which pointed to the use of oil extracted from carcass in temple rituals were found to be true, the State would head for a major disaster.

The omens were already not looking good as the State had been devastated by floods.

She also blamed the civil supplies and the vigilance staff of the Endowments Department for their callous attitude on the issue and demanded an immediate explanation from the Endowments Minister Gade Venkat Reddy.

Flood management

Lashing out at the local administration on the lapses in flood management, she said that the Congress leaders should learn from TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu on dealing with the emergency situation. She reminded that when the State witnessed similar situation in 1998, the then TDP government mobilised all its resources and controlled the situation.

The State received generous help from the neighbouring States too.

But the present Congress-led government was not able to get assistance even from the other Congress-ruled states, she observed.

Except Chief Minister K. Rosaiah, none of the M.L.As and ministers showed any interest in dealing with the situation and were reluctant to guide the officials.

The Ministers failed to provide solace to the flood victims even in the aftermath of the floods, she said.
