Accuses Congress government of neglecting the welfare of poor

Promises waiver of loans under Velugu scheme

Rs. 500 crore assured for minority welfare

PARIGI ( RR district): Telugu Desam president N. Chandrababu Naidu has come up with yet another offer – free rice to the poor until its rate comes down in the open market.

Addressing a well-attended road show here, en route Kodangal, to participate in a ‘maha dharna’, he, however, did not mention the quantity to be supplied.

Hitting out at the Congress government, he said that while the prices had soared, the family income had not gone up.

Citing examples, he said rice was being sold between Rs. 20 to 30 a kg in the open market and a kg of groundnut oil was Rs. 100. He also assured to reduce the price of LPG cooking gas and waive all loans taken by the women under Velugu scheme.

He also announced that free power would be provided to the poor and an ex gratia of Rs. 2 lakh to the kin of auto-rickshaw and lorry drivers in the event of their death.

Accusing the government of totally neglecting the welfare of the poor, he demanded that the price of petrol and diesel be reduced as the international crude prices plummeted. At another meeting at Chevella, he expressed confidence that his party would come back to power with absolute majority.

The TDP leader also announced that GO 111, which prohibited constructions in 84 villages in the district, located in the catchment areas of Osmansagar and Himayatsagar, would be revoked. Accusing the government of failing to protect one lakh acres of Wakf properties, he said that Rs. 500 crore would be allotted for minorities’ welfare.
