Mahabubnagar: Deccan Variety Sheep Development Centre would be established in Mahabubnagar district with an amount of Rs. 5 crore according to Minister for Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development Mandali Buddha Prasad.

The minister disclosed this while participating in various developmental programmes taken up at Doultabad and Bomraspet mandals in Kodangal Assembly constituency on Tuesday.

Addressing the gathering the Minister said that to encourage milk producers, the State Government has taken a decision to enhance the milk rate by Rs.1.50 per litre and it will come into be effect from July 1.

Later, speaking to press persons the Minster informed that Rs. 550 crore has been earmarked for dairy development. He said that 136 bulk cooling units would be established in the State under Chief Minister’s package and the units would be run by Mandala Mahila Samakhyas (SHGs) with the cooperation of Animal Husbandry Department. Funds were allocated to construct buildings for thousand veterinary hospitals in the State in the current year and the Government has also decided to provide a honorarium of Rs.1,200 to the Gopalamithras.

The Minister also informed that 580 vacant veterinary doctor posts would be filled up with retired employees and 6,000 milk cattle would be sanctioned to Mahabubnagar district.
