VIJAYAWADA: Plastic surgeons from India and abroad have gathered here to participate in the two-day annual conference of the Plastic Surgeons Association Andhra Pradesh, which was inaugurated at Salaja Hospital on Saturday.

Besides the general body meeting of the association, seminars and workshops were also being held on the hospital premises and at the Indian Medical Association (IMA) hall.

Association president Lakshmi Saleem and plastic surgeon M.A. Saleem, at a press conference, said that for the first time the annual conference was being conducted in the city in which the issue of bringing plastic surgeries close to common people would be discussed at length.

Observing that awareness levels of the public about plastic surgery were increasing each day, they said that as a result of the technological revolution, the surgeries were now within the reach of the middleclass.

“The issue of obesity will be discussed widely in the two-day conference.

Since it is a worldwide problem and the option of bariatric surgery is being considered by many, all aspects of the surgery will be discussed here,” they said.

Similarly, demonstrations would be conducted on topics like contemporary methods of cosmetic surgery.

Dr. Saleem said experts in plastic surgery like Ashok Gupta from Mumbai, Devendra Kumar from Bareli and Catherine Dorsey from England were participating as special invitees.
