Mass Muslim marriages to be performed in Kadapa on Feb. 28

KADAPA: Mass marriage of poor Muslim youth will be performed free of charge at Kalakshetram here at 10 a.m. on February 28, Additional Joint Collector G. Joshi Babu said on Wednesday.

So far 30 couples have enrolled their names and the district administration was capable of performing 100 marriages, he told a meeting here.

Applications would be received till February 28 and the government would give material worth Rs. 15,000 to each new couple, he said.

Kadapa Mayor P. Raveendranatha Reddy promised to give Rs. 1,000 per couple and Deputy Mayor K. Nabi Rasool has assured two grams of gold to each couple while the councillors have promised Rs. 30,000 per couple.

Congress Municipal Corporator S.B. Amjad Basha promised to give utensils worth Rs. 2,000 to each couple while Zilla Parishad cooption member Shabbir said he would present Rs. 500 to each couple. Farid Basha promised new clothes to each couple. Minority Welfare Officer Parvez Ahmed said the government would give a cheque for Rs. 15,000 in the name of the bride.
