Maoists spreading base in coastal region

GUNTUR: Arrest of two key Communist Party of India (Maoist) commanders from Tenali in the coastal region of Guntur district has given credence to the rumours that the naxalite movement was witnessed in Nallamalla region in Guntur district.

The police now are looking into the possible ploy of Maoists to spread their wings in the coastal region. Guntur SP Mahesh Chandra Laddha said on Sunday that they were cautiously looking into all the inputs they were getting on naxal movements.

Arrest of two key women activists had surprised them that too of commander’s rank from the Central Technical Team based at Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh.

This, the police believe, could be a diversionary tactics or they would have thought it to be a safe place for them to shelter their cadre as vigilance in this region was not as high as that in Palnadu or Nallamalla region.
