Manmohan visit postponement

TIRUPATI: The postponement of the visit of the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to Chittoor district has taken the fizz out of the district administrators and the officials of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), for the arrangements painstakingly made ahead of the VVIP visit have been rendered futile.

Dr. Singh was scheduled to be here to lay the foundation on September 6 at Mannavaram for the Rs.6000 crore NTPC-BHEL power equipment manufacturing unit, apart from launching the project to upgrade the Tirupati airport to international status.

The district authorities cleared the shrubbery and developed the project site at Mannavaram and also the sprawling ground adjoining the airport, where Dr. Singh was slated to address a public meeting. Similarly, SV University authorities too refurbished the Senate Hal.

At Tirumala, the posh Sri Padmavathi guest house (SPGH) meant for the stay of VVIPs has been meticulously spruced up. With the news trickling down, the dejected workers and officials, with their morale sapped, have abandoned the job ‘for now’.
