HYDERABAD: A 34-year-old man attempted suicide by consuming sleeping pills on Osmania University campus on Monday morning appealing to political parties to intensify agitation for Telangana State in a note written by him.

M. Raghuma Reddy, a grocery store owner, was found unconscious in the ‘A’ ground opposite Old PG hostel by a watchman around 5.30 a.m. A note purportedly written by him was also found. The watchman called in 108 ambulance and got him shifted to Gandhi Hospital where doctors said he was out of danger. New PG hostel inmates are said to have seen Reddy at 10.30 p.m. when he was parking his bike at the open land. When they enquired, he hurriedly went away leaving his bike stating he had come to meet a friend. Later, he was seen writing some papers at ‘A’ ground pavilion building after midnight. “I am preparing for competitive exams,” he replied, when few other students asked him. Hailing from Madugulapalli of Tipparthi mandal in Nalgonda district, Reddy was living in Parvathipuram of Uppal for past few years. A case of attempt to suicide under Section 309 of Indian Penal Code was registered against him.
