Police form a special team to nab the accused

NALGONDA: A man axed his father-in-law to death and severely injured his mother-in-law in a bizarre caste feud at Sitarampuram village of Gundala mandal in Nalgonda district on Monday.

Sub Inspector Jaleel Pasha told mediapersons that Sampangi Ramaswamy (70) and Buchhamma (60), `Vaddera' by caste, had adopted Pulikasi Kanakaiah (45) of Choutapally in Karimnagar district 25 years ago as they had only two daughters.

Though Kanakaiah was a `Mutarasi' by caste, the couple married off one of their daughters to him and all of them led a happy life at Sitarampuram till recently. Kanakaiah, father of two sons and a daughter, mingled with Ramaswamy's family by almost giving up his own caste.

The problem started when Kanakaiah wanted to find a `Mutarasi' boy for his only daughter, who is now 19.

"Unable to stomach the development, Ramaswamy's family raised serious objection to the proposal.

However, Kanakaiah said that he would go by his decision. This created turmoil in the family," the SI said.

Wordy duel

Against this backdrop, heated wordy duel had been going on for some time between Kanakaiah and Ramaswamy.

Allegedly enraged by the resistance put up by his in-laws, Kanakaiah went berserk and chased away his family members from his home on Monday.

"Later, he reportedly went to Ramaswamy's home and attacked the elderly couple with an exe. While Ramaswamy died on the spot, Buchhamma sustained serious injuries on her head," Mr. Jaleel Pasha said.

The police rushed the injured woman to the district headquarters hospital, where her condition was said to be very critical.

A special police team had been formed to nab Kanakaiah, who allegedly took to his heels after creating mayhem in the village, the Sub-Inspector said.
