TRS seeks his resignation

WARANGAL: Senior Congress MLA Basawaraju Saraiah was gheraoed by separate Telangana activists at the Municipal Corporation office here on Monday.

Mr. Saraiah went to the corporation to review the drinking water supply position. A group of activists reached the office and raised slogans in support of separate Telangana and demanded that the MLA come out and talk to them.

The activists, some students of Kakatiya University and TRS leaders, wanted Mr. Saraiah to resign from his membership to Legislative Assembly.

They also demanded that he should not accept a berth in the Ministry even if the Chief Minister K Rosaiah offered him. “The Andhra lobby is trying to give you Ministry only to dilute the movement. You should not accept it,” they said. The protestors did not allow the MLA to speak for a while and kept on raising slogans.

A group of minorities too joined the demonstration and demanded that the Congress party suspend MP L. Rajagopal who made unwarranted remarks against the Muslim minorities. Addressing the gathering, Mr Saraiah said he was first among those who tendered resignation in support of separate Telangana and was working as convenor of Telangana Congress Leaders Forum. “One need not suspect my credentials. I am always in support of separate Telangana,” he said refusing to be dragged into any controversy further.
