VISAKHAPATNAM: Adagala Eswara Rao, 36, a lorry driver, was murdered by his brother Nokaraju after a drunken brawl in the small hours of Sunday.

Eswara Rao, a resident of Agnampudi, and Nookaraju, 30, a lorry cleaner, were addicted to alcohol and used to quarrel frequently, police said. After an argument over a trivial issue, Eswara Rao hit Nookaraju with an iron rod and later chased him. Nookaraju smashed his head with a boulder when he accidentally fell into a ditch while chasing him. He died on the spot.

SI remanded

A bigamy charge forced a sub-inspector of police from Hyderabad to cool his heels in judicial custody here.

After nullifying his first marriage through a divorce with Renuka, M. Madhusudan Rao, reserve SI in Amberpet, married Padmaja, an employee of HPCL here. She lodged a complaint against him in Fourth Town police station when he married Sumolata, a young woman from Hyderabad on February 24 at Arya Samaj.

Rao, 41, was brought from Hyderabad to the city and arrested on Saturday. He was produced before the first additional chief metropolitan magistrate on Sunday, who remanded him to judicial custody.

Ms. Padmaja alleged that he had taken a loan of Rs.6.5 lakhs through her and subsequently ignored her. When she enquired, she came to know about his marriage with another woman without obtaining divorce from her.

The city police charged him with bigamy and cheating. Fourth Town CI M. Srinivas said a case was pending at Vijayawada in cheating one Shankar Rao in share business.
