‘Politicians trying to divert people’s attention with Jai Andhra, Jai Rayalaseema slogans’

Says successive governments sold Telangana lands

Funds raised not utilised for region’s development

ADILABAD: Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) president K. Chandrasekhara Rao on Tuesday ridiculed the demand being made for separate Andhra and Rayalaseema States by politicians of the respective regions. He said they were just trying to draw away attention of the people by raising Jai Andhra and Jai Rayalaseema slogans.

Sincerity questioned

Mr. Rao was addressing a well attended gathering of students at ZPSS Grounds in Mancherial as part of the awareness movement targeting them. He questioned the sincerity of people from Andhra region demanding a separate State.

Mr. Rao wondered how a settler from Andhra region will be prepared to leave Telangana. “Will the settlers, who originally purchased lands in Telangana region for as low as Rs. 5,000 per acre and now refuse to part with them even when offered Rs. 50,000 per gunta, be prepared to leave?”, he asked.

Talking about exploitation suffered by Telangana people, the TRS president said successive governments sold Telangana lands but did not utilise the funds raised for development of the region. He said the governments were trying to sell away lands under Osmania and Kakatiya Universities in the region. In this regard, he also criticised the Telugu Desam Party for making an effort to sell away Singareni Collieries during its rule. Mr. Rao also promised to provide proportional representation to all weaker sections and minorities if Telangana becomes a reality. He also unveiled a statue of Telangana Talli.

Khanapur MLA A. Govind Naik and Huzurabad MLA Captain Laxmikantham also attended.
