KADAPA: Kadapa Principal District Judge M. Vijayalakshmi on Saturday called for constitution of a committee to check ragging in educational institutions in the district.

Addressing a legal awareness camp organised by District Legal Services Authority in Madina Engineering College in Kadapa, she said ragging was banned in educational institutions and those resorting to ragging would be debarred and dealt with as per law. Those convicted for at least six months would not be admitted into any other educational institution, she warned.

Complaint box

The District Judge suggested putting up of a complaint box in every educational institution. The box should be opened every week and action taken on complaints, she said.

Additional District Judge S. Surendra Babu Reddy said ragging was taking an ugly turn and posing serious problems of late. Stating that ragging had been banned in educational institutions in 1977, he warned of stern action against those indulging in it. He advised senior students to welcome their juniors with love and kindness.

District Legal Services Authority secretary B. Syamsunder said ragging victims could call him up on mobile No. 94409 01046 and seek legal assistance.
