‘Vijayawada archers can earn a slot in the Commonwealth Games team'

VIJAYAWADA: Job opportunities are immense in government organisations for sportspersons, and students apart from pursuing education should evince interest in sports and games for the overall development of their personality, according to international archer Ch. Lenin.

Speaking at the concluding ceremony of the summer coaching camp held at Nalanda Vidya Niketan on Wednesday, Mr. Lenin said companies such as the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation, the Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited, the Indian Oil Corporation, the Indian Railways and public sector banks were supporting talented sportspersons in a big way by offering jobs.

“Nalanda has produced five international archers and the VMC-Volga Archery Academy at the Mahanadu Road has emerged as the hub of the archery activities in the city,” he said.

Andhra Pradesh Archery Association vice-president Ch. Satyanarayana said that archers from Vijayawada stood a chance to earn a slot in the Commonwealth Games archery team. “Apart from discipline and character, sports and games teach how to emerge as a strong human being to withstand the vagaries of like,” he observed.

Nalanda Vidya Niketan vice-principal Sudha said that apart from imparting skills in sports and games, the camp took up cultural activities and imparted communication skills in English. Both Mr. Lenin and Mr. Satyanarayana gave away prizes to the participants. Nalanda Vidya Niketan primary section head mistress M. Padmaja said that the school was conducting summer camp every year to create awareness among the students about the importance of the extra curricular activities.
