JAC resents delay in release of block grant

VISAKHAPATNAM: The Joint Action Committee of Teaching, Non-Teaching and Hostel Employees organised a mass dharna in front of the Central Administrative office building of Andhra University here on Saturday demanding the Government to issue Block Grants to State universities, as part of a State-wide programme at all State universities.

Important issue

The Andhra University JAC in a memorandum submitted to the Chief Minister through Vice-Chancellor B. Satyanarayana and Registrar P.V.G.D. Prasada Reddy wanted the Government to release the quarterly Block Grant of Rs. 20.36 crores to AU immediately, failing which the university would not be able to pay salaries to the teachers and employees and pension to the retired teachers and staff.

Secretary of Andhra University Teachers Association M. Prasada Rao said there were many other issues but the release of Block Grant was taken up as it was an important issue.

Along with Prof. Prasada Rao, president of Andhra University Employees Association D.V. Ramana, general secretary Siva Reddy, secretary of Hostel Employees Union P. Sankar Reddy and representatives of trade unions K. Asib Dora, I. Venkataramana, N. Appala Raju and N. Ramu presented the memorandum to the AU officials.
