NELLORE: A first-year Intermediate student, M. Mounika (16), died under suspicious circumstances in her hostel room in Chemudugunta village near Nellore city on Tuesday.

Mounika, daughter of Ramakrishna and a native of Nizamabad district, was studying M.P.C. in Narayana Girls Junior College. She was found hanging to the ceiling fan in the dormitory.

This is the second such incident in the college in the last ten days. A second year Inter student, D. Renuka, a native of Kadapa district, died in the same hostel on August 24 in a similar manner and the case is under investigation.

According to the college staff, Mounika attended classes in the morning session and stayed back in the hostel in the afternoon. As she did not turn up for study hours in the evening, the staff came to the room and found her hanging. On receiving information, the Venkatachalam police rushed to the spot, broke open the doors and took the body out.

However, the kin of the victim who were staying in Nellore city held the college management responsible for the death. Though the girl died in the morning hours, the college staff tried to hide the issue till evening, said Mounika’s cousin K. Naidu.

Leaders of ABVP blame the Narayana College management for the series of mysterious deaths occurring on the same campus.

The student union leaders said that there was something suspicious about ‘suicides’ and demanded a probe.

The victim’s relatives and the ABVP leaders prevented the police from shifting the body to the mortuary and demanded that a case be booked against the college management. Mild tension prevailed on the college premises with the girl’s kin and the student unions staging a protest. .
