Inner Wheel to intensify campaign against plastic

VISAKHAPATNAM: Inner Wheel national president Azhagu Annamalai on Saturday said the international service organisation, part of Rotary family, would step up its campaign against use of plastic.

Ms. Annamalai, who was here to take part in the Inner Wheel District 302 conference here on Friday, told reporters that their members were approaching shop owners not to provide plastic bags while selling various items.

“Our clubs are also offering rewards and facilitating recognition by municipalities to encourage them,” she stated.

She said the members were also distributing bags made with old clothes and newspapers to the consumers and trying to sensitise them on adverse affect of using plastic.

Highlighting various activities of the organisation, she said they had 900 clubs with 23,750 members in the country in 27 Inner Wheel districts.

The district 302 is spread from Srikakulam to Krishna district.

District conference

District chairman Sarita Lunani said the district conference hosted by Inner Wheel Club of Visakhapatnam would review the performance of 27 clubs and finalise programmes to be taken up in future.

She said during the year, they had contributed amount for a radiation room at a cancer hospital at Eluru and medicines for patients in the city through Rohit Memorial Trust.

She said they had donated solar heating system, built toilets in school, water storage tank, bus shelter and provided furniture to schools.

Inner Wheel Club president G. Pradeepika, secretary Sujatha Patrudu and others were present.
