VISAKHAPATNAM: “The best brains need to stay involved in science and technology and in teaching, for an holistic development of the country in the next 10 to 15 years,” opined Anuj Sinha, Head, Science Communication Division, Department of Science and Technology (DST) while addressing the students and faculty members from Computer Science Department, Andhra University College of Engineering (AUCE), on Saturday.
He said it is the duty of the faculty to identify such students and motivate them to join teaching and research discipline.
Giving an overview on the applications of ICT (Information, Communication and Technology) at the grassroot level and DST’s initiative, he said, ICT could be used in various sectors like rural health care, disaster management, Computer Aided Administration of the Registration Department, automation of rural Post Offices and training and employment division.
He urged the students and faculty members to draw inspiration from the success of Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation that had been able to link up 600 milk collection points with 60,000 contributors with the help of ICT.
Vice- Chancellor of AU L. Venugopal Reddy, in his address pointed out that AUCE has been voted as the No. 1 engineering college in the State and rated as the 31st in the all India level in a recent survey conducted by a magazine and the college is poised for a very big growth in the coming years.
Principal of the AUCE Allam Appa Rao spoke about the various new courses introduced by the college recently in the graduate and post-graduate level.
Rector of AU B. Satyanarayana and Head of the CSE and SE Department M. Surendra Prasad Babu also spoke.
