IAS officer files defamation cases against Samal

Hyderabad: Two criminal cases of defamation and a civil suit claiming damages of Rs. 25 lakh were filed against former Vigilance Commissioner, R.C. Samal in the courts of Third Metropolitan Sessions Judge and in City Civil Court on Thursday. The cases were filed in respect of allegations of corruption levelled against a senior IAS officer, Vinok K. Agrawal, who is presently the Commissioner of Land Survey and Settlements.

Mr. Agrawal’s name figured in the list of officers named by Mr. R.C. Samal after he retired from the post of Vigilance Commissioner. Speaking to The Hindu, Mr. Agrawal said he had written letters to Mr. Samal asking him to furnish the evidences for his charges for an enquiry by the Government.

A legal notice issued to him was also not replied to. Subsequently, he had sought permission from the Government to proceed legally against Mr. Samal.

Following the permission, the Public Prosecutor filed a case under sections 199 of the Cr.P.C. read with Section 499 of the IPC in the Nampally court.

In addition to this, Mr. Agrawal filed another criminal case of defamation and a civil suit for recovery of damages of Rs. 25 lakh against Mr. Samal in the court of Vacation Chief Judge, City Civil Court.
