High poll percentage in all segments

MACHILIPATNAM: The average voter turnout in all the 16 Assembly constituencies of Krishna district was considerably good, crossing 73 per cent at 5 p.m.

Jaggayyapeta stood first with 85 per cent polling, while Tiruvuru (SC) came last with 64 per cent. Nandigama (SC) constituency recorded 70 per cent polling. The polling in Vijayawada Parliamentary constituency touched 69.71 per cent, and it was 74.43 in Machilipatnam Parliamentary constituency.

The polling percentage in other Assembly constituencies was: Nuzvid – 70; Kaikaluru – 81; Gannavaram – 68; Gudivada – 70; Pedana – 72; Machilipatnam – 74; Avanigadda – 80; Pamarru – 82; Penmaluru – 75; Vijayawada West – 68; Vijayawada Central – 65; Vijayawada East – 68; and Mylavaram – 68.

The votes polled till 1 p.m. constituted about 45.45 per cent in the entire district and it touched 70 per cent by 4.30 p.m. The officials said it would have crossed 73 per cent by the time polling concluded in all the polling stations.

The polling continued till late evening, as the voters, more particularly women, started pouring in large numbers after 4.30 p.m. in many polling stations. This trend was not confined to a few places. The people remained indoors till 4 p.m. in view of blazing heat.
