VIJAYAWADA: The Principal Secretary to the Government for Rural Development has asked the Chief Executive Officer of the Society for Elimination of Rural Poverty (SERP), the State-level nodal agency for Indira Kranthi Patham activities, to repatriate Krishna District Rural Development Agency Project Director Ch. Bhanu Prasad to the Revenue Department, his parent department.

An official release said here on Saturday that the Principal Secretary had taken the decision following a report sent to him by the Director-General of the Anti-Corruption Bureau, recommending that Bhanu Prasad, a Special Grade Deputy Collector working on deputation, be repatriated to his parent department in view of a case registered against him on the charge of possessing assets disproportionate to known sources of income. The Principal Secretary had asked the CEO of the SERP to make alternative arrangements until the appointment of a new PD of DRDA.

ACB sleuths carried out simultaneous checks on the house of Bhanu Prasad in the city and other places in the State on December 15, and unearthed assets of Rs.1.2 crores, according to an official statement. Pending a decision by the higher authorities, Krishna district Collector N. Sridhar kept Bhanu Prasad on the sidelines, and the high-profile official was not allowed to be present at regional meeting of self-help groups from five districts addressed by Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy here on December 18.
