High-level panel inspects quarries

A six-member high-powered committee, constituted by the State government in March to suggest safety measures to prevent recurrent granite mishaps at Chimakurthi, on Thursday inspected the working condition in 14 quarries.

The team, formed in the wake of the death of 14 persons in an accident in a mine in February, expressed dissatisfaction over the unsafe working conditions in 12 quarries and decided to suspend their licences till upgradation of the facilities, according to official sources.

Safety measures

The team will suggest various measures to improve the safety condition in the mines, including quality training programmes for workers.
