Hearing on rebel TRS legislators adjourned

HYDERABAD: Assembly Speaker K.R. Suresh Reddy on Saturday adjourned hearing on a petition to disqualify nine rebel Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) MLAs amid rival claims by the legislators and the party leadership represented by its leader in the House.

Mr. Reddy reportedly promised another meeting to explain his stand to both sides, but did not fix a specific date.

TRS floor leader G. Vijayarama Rao told reporters later that he had insisted on the Speaker to disqualify immediately the rebel legislators as no further evidence was required to prove their guilt of proposing an independent Kasani Gyaneshwar in the elections to the State Legislative Council against a whip issued by the party.

Lapse admitted

He said the rebels had admitted to their lapse in writing. Therefore, they were liable for disqualification under anti-defection laws.
