TIRUPATI: The newly-established 21st century Gurukulam at Sri Venkateswara University is all set to get a facelift, going by the assurances given by M.D. Christopher, secretary of the Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education , during his visit here on Monday.

A brainchild of Raj Reddy, Professor of robotics at Carnegie Mellon University in the USA and native of Chittoor district, the ‘Gurukulam’ concept is all about identifying talented students from rural pockets through an entrance test and providing them special training in computer subjects, communication and soft skills to cater to the emerging IT and IT-enabled services industry. On completion of the one-year course, students are all set to land with plum jobs. Of the twelve Gurukulams in the State, one is in Tirupati, attached to SVU.

Dr. Christopher announced that internet facility would be provided to the Gurukulam shortly . Gurukulam’s Director N.S.Balaji Rao said, 60 students from across the State, including 19 girls, were studying at the centre.
