Grandeur to mark Satavahana Kalotsavalu

As a prelude to kalotsavalu a week-long curtain raiser programmes will be organised from Feb. 7

KARIMNAGAR: The district administration has decided to celebrate the annual Satavahana Kalotsavalu-2009 on a grand scale on February 14 and 15 at Ambedkar Stadium in Karimnagar.

Talking to newsmen here on Saturday, Collector Sandeep Kumar Sultania said that the Satavahana Kalotsavalu would be opened with the massive cultural rally on February 14.

There would be replicas of all temple shrines and flower show at Helipad Park and Dwcra bazaar at Ambedkar Stadium.

Eminent kathak dancer Manjula Ramaswamy, film star and mimicry artist Shiva Reddy and film music director Koti and his troupe would entertain the gathering at the Ambedkar Stadium main venue.

Music programmes

On February 15, eminent drummer Shivamani would perform for about 45 minutes at the stadium and young music director Devi Sri Prasad and his orchestra would perform in the evening.

Earlier in the day, there would be ‘gangireddula’ (ox) show.

There would be lot of fire works during the closing ceremony.

As a prelude to the kalotsavalu, the administration had decided to celebrate week-long curtain raiser programmes in various parts of the district from February 7 onwards.

Accordingly, the Collector said that the celebrations would begin on February 7 with the Sham-e-Ghazal at Helipad park in Karimnagar town and would be inaugurated by Ministers T Jeevan Reddy and Md. Shabbir Ali.

On February 8, a 5-km run would be organised in Karimnagar for which APSRTC Chairman M Satyanarayana Rao would flag off the run. On the same day, there were would be orchestra programme and a fancy dress competition for children at Collectorate auditorium and ‘mushaira’ in the evening at Helipad park.

Water sports

On February 9, there would be water sports at Ambedkar stadium swimming pool and local artists programmes at all division headquarters for the selection of the best in all folk forms to perform during the inaugural and closing ceremony of the kalotsavams at stadium.

On February 10, water sports would be held at LMD reservoir and in the evening a ‘qawali’ programme would be organised.

On February 11, kavi sammelanam at Film Bhavan and cultural programmes with the participants of Little Champs of Zee Telugu programme.

On February 12, a painting competition for children and mehendi competition for women would be organised at Deer park and Collectorate auditorium respectively.

On February 13, there would be traditional dress competition for the womenfolk at Collectorate auditorium.
