Ryots deprived of 9-hour power supply: Nomula Narsimhaiah

NALGONDA: Communist Party of India (Marxist) State committee member Nomula Narsimhaiah has charged the State government with miserably failing to provide nine-hour free power supply to farmers as per the poll promise made by former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy.

Addressing media men at the party office here on Sunday, Mr Narsimhaiah alleged that the government lacked sincerity in fulfilling its commitment towards farmers.

‘Tall claims’

“Despite its tall claims on pro-farmer regime, the government has deprived the farmers of the promised nine-hour free power supply till date,” he charged.

Stating that there was surplus power available in the central grid, he said the State government should initiate urgent steps to procure the required electricity to meet the power needs of farmers in the crucial rabi season.

Notwithstanding the assurances and visits of the Central teams to the drought ravaged areas, the victimised farmers are yet to get any concrete relief from the government so far, he alleged, and said that the government should waive crop loans, issue fresh loans and extend the much-needed help to the drought-hit farmers without any further delay.

Referring to the alleged irregularities in the implementation of the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme in some areas of the district, he asked the government to plug the loopholes and ensure effective implementation of the scheme.

CPI (M) leaders T Gopi and P Anantharama Sarma were also present.
