This is for the first time that ACA is hosting a women’s ODI

VISAKHAPATNAM: Vizagites missed seeing the Sri Lankans, the Proteos and the IPL teams in action, for no fault of theirs but the Indian woman team brought down this disappointment to an extent with a clinical show against England team at the beautiful ACA-VDCA stadium at P.M. Palem on the city outskirts on Wednesday.

For the few hundred spectators, who came to the stadium, it was a pleasant sight to witness the players of the both sides putting up a show as good as their men counterparts in terms of athletic fielding, inspiring pace and fine batting, though a Tendulkar or a Sehawag on the distaff side is yet to emerge.

The organisers wanted people to come and witness the matches (the other ODI is scheduled for Friday) and a good number of students from the nearby professional colleges obliged them and cheered the Indian team and also the fighting English team, with many of its fielders chasing, diving and stopping the ball running towards the boundary.

Women’s cricket is no more a slow motion version of the men’s cricket, many must have felt after the game. This is also for the first time that the city as well as Andhra is hosting a women’s ODI.

ACA and VDCA wanted young girls to come and see the teams in action so that they get inspired and play the game.

There were not many girls among spectators but a big group of girls sat in the stands for a long time and more can be expected for the Friday’s game to cheer India as the home team would go all out to win the match to seal the series.
