Animal Husbandry Minister will be chief guest

MP to arrange performance of Srinivas in UN office

VIJAYAWADA: Paying tributes to the Father of the Nation, noted Ghazal singer Srinivas will sing a special song in 100 languages on Mahatma Gandhi at Gandhi Hill in the city on Monday evening.

Animal Husbandry Minister Mandali Buddha Prasad will be the chief guest at the programme titled ‘Swara Neerajanam,’ which is also aimed at gaining an entry into the Gunnies Book of World Records in a special category. He will be singing the song in 56 Indian languages and dialects and 44 foreign languages.

Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, Mr. Srinivas said he penned and composed the song, a compilation of the quotations of Mahatma Gandhi, in Telugu and took the help of experts of various languages to translate it into Indian and foreign languages. Though the duration of the song was six minutes in all languages, Mr. Srinivas would cut it short to two minutes to complete the performance in five to six hours.

Gandhian philosophy

“For gaining an entry into the Gunnies Book, the minimum duration of the song is two minutes,” he said, adding that setting a record was not his prime objective. The main idea was to create awareness among people of Gandhian philosophy. “I am receiving invitations from various counties to give this special performance. I chose Vijayawada, as I wanted to contribute my part to developing Gandhi Hill,” he explained.

Thanking the Lanco Group, which is sponsoring the programme, Mr. Srinivas said MP Lagadapati Rajagopal was trying to arrange a performance in the office of the United Nations in Geneva. “I’ve penned this song during my visit to Sabarmati Ashram in Gujarat two years ago. So far, this song was translated into 140 languages. Now I plan to make it into 200 languages, so that I can give another performance by singing the song in the remaining 100 languages,” he explained.
