Gastroenteritis death toll rises in Nizamabad

NIZAMABAD: Two more deaths due to gastroenteritis were reported in the district on Saturday.

A four- year-old boy L. Arunkumar of Dammannapet tribal hamlet in Darpally mandal and Aravind (6) of Kyatampally tanda in Kamareddy mandal died of diarrhoea.

Arunkumar was shifted to district headquarter hospital here on Friday night as doctors were not available at the 30-bedded Darpally hospital.

The boy died while undergoing treatment early Saturday morning.

Aravind reportedly died at Kamareddy before being admitted to a hospital.

According to information reaching here, the management of a private hospital refused to admit him as his condition was grim.

With this, the death toll due to gastroenteritis in the district in the recent times has gone up to four. On Thursday, two persons-Chakali Mallaiah (45) and B. Boodaiah (45) of Bagartipally in Biknoor mandal reportedly died of gastroenteritis.

District Collector B. Ramanjaneyulu who visited Bagartipally on Saturday evening, said the rural folk were falling prey to diarrhoea as they were consuming contaminated water.

Drinking water was getting contaminated due to pit-taps, he said. Street public taps needed to be arranged immediately to discourage the use of pit-taps.

He said the medical and health teams and local authorities have been put on a high alert to prevent gastro cases.

Mahabubnagar correspondent writes: Gastroenteritis (G.E) and other seasonal diseases have claimed five lives so far.

The deaths were reported from Marlabeedu of Dharur mandal, Makalasompally of Maldakal mandal Kalwarala of Pangal mandal and Maddur mandals.
