This service by the RTC is an additional one as the West Bengal Government Transport Corporation is already operating such Volvo service between Visakhapatnam and Kolkatta daily.

RTC zonal advisory committee chairman Majji Narayana Rao flagged off the Volvo service at a function held in the Dwaraka Nagar bus station. Its Executive Director C. Damodara Dass and Visakhapatnam regional manager N. Venkateswara Rao participated. With this service the total number of Garuda buses being operated by the RTC from Visakhapatnam has gone up to 12. Chennai, Bangalore (via Tirupati) and Hyderabad are the other routes where such buses ply.

Two more planned

Later, Mr. Narayana Rao told mediapersons that the RTC was planning to add two Garuda services to Hyderabad and Bangalore from here. On the recently introduced “couple gift card” scheme, he said after Guntur, the Vizag region had topped the card sales in the State.

The card costs Rs.1,000 each and under this scheme the couple and their children (below five years) can travel anywhere in the State in any RTC bus (except air-conditioned ones) for four days.
