VISAKHAPATNAM: The Visakhapatnam Apartment Residents’ Welfare Association (VARWA) has asked the Eastern Power Distribution Company of Andhra Pradesh Limited (EPDCL) to adopt a soft attitude towards flat owners by releasing power connections.

At a roundtable conference held at VARWA office on Sunday, it was decided to present a representation to EPDCL Chairman and Managing Director Gulzar for releasing connections without insisting on occupancy certificate from the Greater Visakha Municipal Corporation.

Occupation certificate

Power supply has been denied to nearly 300 apartment buildings in the city and its suburbs for failure of builders in getting occupation certificate from the GVMC for the past one and half years.

The meeting also regretted stoppage of power supply to flat owners in some 26 apartment complexes, who had applied for Building Penalisation Scheme due to a court order after sanction of water supply and assessment by the GVMC.

The meeting was attended, among others, by Institute of Architects city president Y. Narasimha Rao, retired town planning officer Padma Rao, VARWA president Ch.L.N. Sastry, secretary A.V. Ramana Rao and People for India vice-chairman B.L. Narayana.
