Financial aid extended to veteran athletes

GUNTUR: Guntur-based L.V.R & Sons Club has provided financial succour to two veteran athletes, competing for title honours at the World Veteran Athletics Championships to be held at Bangkok in Thailand in November. Member of Parliament Rayapati Sambasiva Rao handed over a cheque of Rs.25,000 each to sprinter Vellithingal Vijaya and H. Rama Sundari (Hammer Throw) at a programme on the club premises on Monday.

Tirumala Tirupathi Devastanam Dharmika Mandali, Guntur president T. Murali Mohan, Club president Peddi Subba Rao, Myneni Prasad and Ramakrishna were present. Speaking on the occasion, the MP promised to set up a regional sports hostel in Guntur and said that funds for the project were already sanctioned. He also promised to look into proposals to set up an annexure at the B.R. Stadium to enable sportspersons competing in various meets to rest.

He thanked the club for supporting sportspersons.

The L.V.R and Sons Club president Peddi Subba Rao appealed to the MP to allot some portion of MP Lads grants to the development of B.R. Stadium.

District Sports Development Officer Ramakrishna was present.
