Staff Reporter

Sangareddy: A farmer from Jhansilingapur of Ramayampet mandal tried to commit suicide in the premises of Medak district Collector’s office here on Saturday.

Ramesh Goud (35) poured kerosene and torched himself opposite the district revenue officer’s chambers. Attendants at the Collector’s office ran to his rescue and sprinkled sand on the burning man. Ramesh Goud has been shifted to the district headquarters hospital and is said to be out of danger.

Sangareddy town sub-inspector Sridhar Reddy told The Hindu that Ramesh Goud resorted to immolation to protest against the alleged harassment meted by Jhansilingapur sarpanch Ramakistaiah, who has been demanding money from him.
