Farm activities in full swing in Srikakulam district

Agricultural activities are in full swing throughout the district with the receiving of good rainfall for the last few days.

As many as 38 mandals received 2,126 mm rainfall by 8 a.m. on Thursday, enabling the farmers to take up works during this kharif season.

Kothuru mandal received the highest rainfall of 135 mm .

Hiramandalam, Sarubujjili, Burja, Palakonda and other mandals recorded a rainfall of 70 mm to 90 mm during the last 24 hours. The district administration has made it clear that there was no shortage of seeds and fertilizers. The administration allocated 32,706 quintals of seeds for the farmers. The officials observed that 28,506 quintals were sufficient for the crop area of 1,85,779 hectares of

land in the district. The remaining seeds will be distributed if more area was covered for agricultural activity.

About 8,500 metric tonnes of urea and 2,500 tonnes of DAP and 1,983 tonnes of potash were allocated in the current season. The district

Collector N. Srikanth asked the Agriculture department to keep more stocks so that farmers would not depend on private dealers. The officials were asked to keep a vigil on the dealers as some of them were indulging in malpractices by creating artificial scarcity.
