Etcherla fast emerging as a model township

Srikakulam: Etcherla mandal which is located 5 km away from Srikakulam town is fast emerging as both modern and model township and investments worth crores of rupees were pouring in both on the educational and industrial front.

Much of the development taking place today was the hard work and efforts put in by the former Assembly Speaker and former legislator from Etcherla Pratibha Bharathi.

Coming up on a hilltop at a picturesque location is the 21st century Gurukulam being promoted by the Higher Education Council of the State government. Being established in a sprawling 50 acre premises facilities were being built to accommodate training for 750 students as part of their skills development project for graduate students.

The Institution being set up on the lines of Indian School of Business will be the most prestigious one in the State with the state-of-the-art technology and facilities. The Infrastructure being built currently by the AP Medical and Health Infrastructure Corporation (APMHIC) will have eight blocks and three floors and would be affiliated to the Dr.Ambedkar University in future.

Major project

Another major project under implementation is the upgradation of the AU Post Graduate centre into a full-fledged and autonomous university.

The State government has allocated 103 acres of land for creating various facilities for college buildings, hostels, staff quarters and other student facilities apart from setting up several research centres within the lush green environment.

The 103 acres of land will be transformed into a major educational township.

The mandal which has a national highway is dotted with lovely hillocks where another 100 acres have been alienated for the construction of the “Rajiv Swagruha” middle class housing. Besides, the Youth Hostels Association has also chosen the mandal for locating its youth hostel with all the modern facilities for the training of the youth in sports and other activities in a two acre premises at an estimated cost of Rs.2 crores.

Projects on the anvil include the Scouts and Guides training facility in 4 acres of land, a driving track for the Road Transport Authority, and government girls ITI to be developed at a cost of Rs.2 crores. Etcherla Tahsildar Satti Babu told The Hindu that the mandal is the most happening place in the district and that he was lucky to preside over it’s destiny.
