Both Congress and Telugu Desam intensify campaignBoth parties deploy big leaders and actors

Rajahmundry: Senior leaders, film actors-turned politicians from Congress and TDP gave fillip to the campaigning for Rajahmundry Municipal Corporation elections on Friday. Film actress Roja covered almost 30 out of 50 divisions in the city. Her campaigning mainly focused on price rise, power cut, drinking water problem and other local issues.

However, the Congress asked Mayor of Vijayawada, Mallika Begum, to campaign in few divisions, including Guduru Radhika's division who is fray for Mayoral post. Vundavelli Arunakumar, MP, campaigned in about 20 wards.

APCC president K. Kesava Rao, film actor Srihari, senior Congress leaders V. Hanumantha Rao, Ambati Rambabu, Danam Nagender, Mahila Congress president Ganga Bhavani also campaigned.

Kinjarapu Yerrannaidu, Babu Mohan, K.E. Krishna Murhty, Alladi Raj Kumar, Nannapaneni Rajakumari, Kala Venkata Rao and Harikrishna campaigned for the TDP. CPI state secretary K. Narayana also joined the campaigner.

Resignation sought

Telugu Desam Parliamentary Party leader Kinjarapu Yerrannaidu has demanded the resignation of Revenue Minister Dharmana Prasada Rao for leasing out a hill in Srikakulam district, which is having potential of valuable colour stones, granite and other mines.

Addressing a press conference here on Friday, he said there were several applications pending with mining department for getting lease of the particular hill, but they were not taken into consideration while allotting the contract (lease) to his son. About the party's chances in the corporation elections, Mr. Naidu said that they were confident of winning all the three corporations as anti-incumbency would help them.
