Driving licence mela from January 5

VIJAYAWADA: The Transport Department, in association with the Lanco Foundation, is organising a driving licence mela from January 5 to 10 at Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation stadium. The aim is to keep middlemen at bay and help students get learning licence (LLR) on the spot.

Transport Minister Kanna Lakshminarayana will inaugurated the mela, while MP Lagadapati Rajagopal, Transport Commissioner Raymond Peter and others will be present.

Deputy Transport Commissioner T. Raghunath said at a press conference on Tuesday that nearly 500 LLRs would be issued per day during the mela and the registration of applications would be done from January 2 to 4. Applicants should come with proof of residence, age and nationality.

They could produce copies of passports or ration cards or voter ID cards towards nationality proof.

Mr. Raghunath said that the transport inspectors and other staff would give about half-an-hour training to applicants before they appeared for the test for LLR. The Lanco Foundation would bear the expenditure on providing facilities at the stadium.
