Drive to tackle mosquito menace

HYDERABAD: The GHMC has taken up an extensive drive to tackle the mosquito menace with anti-larval and fogging activities in all identified breeding areas. It would especially be concentrated in slums and localities around the Musi river. Commissioner S.P. Singh instructed the Urban Forestry Department to remove trees on the Musi bed near Puranapool as it had become a breeding place following a suggestion made by the medical and health officials. The Chief Entomologist, D. Narahari, said 600 anti-larval teams of three members each have been formed to visit households to inspect mosquito breeding places and take necessary action. This is expected to go on for 10 days. Besides Puranapool, Kishenbagh, Bahadurpura, Ziaguda, Sai Durganagar, Indira Nagar have been identified as some of the most vulnerable areas to take up fogging operations. Thirty seven portable fogging machines and three vehicle mounted machines have been pressed into service.
