Doctors threaten strike

Special Correspondent

TIRUPATI: Doctors working in the TTD-run Balaji Institute of Research and Rehabilitation (BIRRD), Tirupati, have threatened to strike work protesting against the management’s failure to address their long pending grievances despite specific directions issued by the State government.

The BIRRD Doctors Association in a statement on Thursday regretted that though the previous government issued a G.O directing the TTD to treat BIRRD on par with SVIMS and pay the doctors on par with those working in the SVIMS, the TTD management hiked only the basic pay and failed to enhance the allowances.

The association also alleged that though the hospital’s bed strength had gone up to 250 from the previous 50, the strength of doctors and other paramedical staff was not increased in tune with the increased bed strength.

They claimed the hospital treated 60,000 out patients annually.
