HYDERABAD: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has criticised AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh for what it called his attempt to deflect public attention from the ongoing land struggle in the State by proposing a national level commission on land reforms.
CPI (M) Polit Bureau member Sitaram Yechury made it clear that the party would raise the land struggle issue in the Parliament and seek constitution of Land Commission in the State. “Land is essentially a State subject and every State has its own policy for it,” he said.
Responding to queries at a press conference here on Saturday, he ridiculed Mr. Digvijay Singh’s claims that there was no clarity in the Left parties’ demand for land commission. “Let Mr. Singh go through the written representations we have submitted several times before making such comments,” he said.
Supporting the party’s State unit’s demand for the appointment of the commission, he said while the States like West Bengal had separate Ministries for land reforms, several other States had exclusive departments looking into land related issues. Mr. Yechury said the Left parties would launch the next phase of the land struggle shortly.
