Delay in Ambedkar statue installation decried

TIRUPATI: Student organisations, which have taken up the cudgels against the SV University top-brass for their alleged acts of omission and commission, on Tuesday fired yet another salvo targeting the university management.

The Ambedkar Students Association (ASA), in a letter to the SV University Registrar, Y. Venkatrami Reddy, questioned the reason for the delay in the erection Ambedkar statue in front of the Golden Jubilee Arch though a resolution to this effect was passed by the university’s Executive Council as far back as August 2007.

The ASA, in its letter with copies marked to the Vice-Chancellor, Rector and all EC members, also pointed out to the Registrar that the committee which the EC had constituted for the purpose had already visited and even selected the statue.

This only showed the ‘scant respect’ and the ‘callous’ attitude of the university authorities towards Dr. Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution, M. Raghu, ASA president, urged the university to take steps to install the statue without delay.
