Curfew-like situation in Narsaraopet town

Special Correspondent

NARSARAOPET: There was literally none coming out of their houses in Narsaraopet town and a curfew-like atmosphere prevailed all over the town on Thursday right from 7 a.m. with people coming out only in small numbers to reach their nearest polling station.

Eerie atmosphere

Every five minutes there was a police jeep or a Rapid Action Force van with personnel dressed in a special way zooming past polling booths created an eerie atmosphere even at noon in the town, forcing closure of every shop and kiosk.

The police personnel and other people on election duty found it difficult to even fetch a bottle of water or butter-milk. As the news of house arrest of Telugu Desam Party leader Kodela Siva Prasada Rao and Minister Kasu Venkata Krishna Reddy along with his son Kasu Mahesh spread in the town, people looked agitated. On complaints from people and police the cable TV network in the town was switched off so that the video clippings of alleged attack on Kodela Siva Prasada Rao’s car was not telecast. Police heaved a sigh of relief as no untoward incident was reported in the Palnadu region of Guntur district, known for bomb attacks and rigging of votes.
