Coordination meet of officials held

SRIKAKULAM: A coordination meeting of officials concerned to prepare action plan for the ensuing rabi season and the proposed campaign from 10 to 16, aimed at creating awareness among farmers on various aspects of farming was organised at the office of the Joint Director (Agriculture), M. Venkataramana in his office here on Saturday. Teams of officials from all departments concerned like agriculture, horticulture, animal husbandry Transco and scientists from Acharya N.G. Ranga Agricultural University, etc would visit villages, interact with farmers and explain to them important aspects of rabi season, like option of crops, the seeds, fertilizers, pesticides to be used, requirement of water, subsidies available on various agricultural inputs.

An important aspect was the decision to encourage red gram crop in the district. As many as 500 acres are proposed to be covered during rabi for which 100 quintals of seed is proposed to be given on 75 per cent subsidy. The product would be purchased at the rate of Rs.3,500 per quintal (Central Government and State Government would pay Rs.2,000 and Rs.1,500 per quintal respectively). Farmers were assured that there would be no problem of marketing.

Adequate stocks of paddy, green gram, black gram and groundnut seed would also be stored for supply during rabi season.
