Convoy carrying relief flagged off

KHAMMAM: Minister for Cooperation Ramreddy Venakata Reddy on Tuesday flagged off a small truck convoy carrying relief material from Khammam town for the flood-affected people in Guntur district. District Collector V.Usharani and a host of officials and non-officials took part in the programme.

The relief vehicles carried some 5,500 bags of rice, dal, tamarind and other essential commodities and clothes for the flood victims in Repalle, Sattenapalli and Vemuru areas.

The granite slab factory owners association had donated relief material worth Rs 12 lakhs.

It included 2,000 bags of rice.

The Chamber of Commerce and the rice millers association had donated Rs 15 lakh worth of essential commodities and sarees.

The District Collector had flagged of the truck convoy carrying relief donated by the Chamber of commerce. Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that the workers affected by the flood in the Kurnool, Mahabubnagara, Krishna and Guntur would be extended loan assistance to the tune of Rs 62 crores through the Andhra Bank. He hoped that the assistance would be utilized for either constructing their houses or for giving a facelift to the existing ones.

The residents of Jayanagar colony , Ballepalli donated Rs 25 lakhs for flood relief. I. G. Subba Rao, retired commandant ( AP special police), a resident of Jayanagar handed over a demand draft to the district Collector, V, Usharani today.

Nama gesture

The Telugu Desam parliamentary Party leader, Nama Nageswar Rao said that all the MPs of the party would donate six months salary towards flood relief.

He said that the Telugu Desam Parliamentary party also decided to allot Rs 50 lakhs from the MPLAD towards flood relief. Besides this, he said Rs 10 lakh was donated to the NTR trust for the relief activity.
